Ready or Not?

Back to school is upon us! It comes with excitement, anxiety, and a bit of crazy. Here’s 8 ways you can help your student (and your family) return to the school day routines!
1. Set an Alarm
Fall back into the morning routine a week or two before the first day of school. Make sure your alarm is reliable, and actually wakes you up. It will help that first week not feel so early, and your student will feel more energized when the school day starts.

2. Create a Bedtime Routine
We all need SLEEP! Even your night owl teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep. Turn off the electronics and don’t forget to lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before to make it super easy to walk out the door!
3. Plan for Breakfasts and Lunches (if you pack)
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it helps with memory and attention. Plan for quick breakfasts. You can even find lots of tasty of options to make ahead in a muffin tin-just browse Pinterest!

4. Shop and Stock
Shop the sales and buy the school supplies. Then buy a few extra for January when your student’s pencils are too small to fit in the sharpener, they need another eraser, or all their crayons have broken.
5. Organize your Family
Set up a family calendar and block out all the events, sports practices, and school holidays. Don’t forget to block out some quality family time, and down time!

6. Go to Back to School Night
This special opportunity sets the tone for the year, so make every attempt to be there! Meet (or reconnect) with teachers, preview their classrooms, and meet the other parents and students in your
students’ class.
7. Practice Enthusiasm
Talk to your student about returning to school, responsibilities and new friendships. Speak positively about the year, your student’s teachers, and the school. Create goals with your students to help them grow!
8. Pray
Pray for your student to have an open mind, to grow spiritually, emotionally, and academically. Pray for your students’ teachers and administration to have wisdom and guidance in all things this year.
